Metrorail is Miami-Dade County's heavy-rail transportation system linking Kendall through South Miami, Coral Gables, and downtown Miami; to the Civic Center/Jackson Memorial Hospital area; and to Brownsville, Liberty City, Hialeah, and Medley in northwest Miami-Dade, with connections to Broward and Palm Beach counties at the Tri-Rail/Metrorail Transfer Station. The elevated rail line stretches 22 miles with 22 stations along its way.
The Miami-Dade Transit Authority is currently developing the North Corridor Extension and the MIC-Earlington Heights Extension.
The North Corridor Extension stretches 9.5 miles serving the communities along the NW 27th Avenue corridor, Miami-Dade College and the sports venues at Dolphin Stadium and Calder Race Course, to a termination point at NW 215th Street just south of Florida's Turnpike. The termination at NW 215th Street accommodates future connections into Broward County.
The MIC-Earlington Heights Extension stretches 2.4 miles, extending from the existing Earlington Heights Station at NW 22nd Avenue and NW 41st Street to the MIC Station at the Miami Intermodal Center's Miami Central Station.
