July 31, 2007 - MIC Construction Field, Miami, Florida RCC First Concrete PourOn July 30, 2007, the MIC Program reached another milestone with the first column pour of the Rental Car Center. Although the foundation and pre-construction work has been accomplished, this concrete pour marks the start of above ground level construction. The first day’s production poured 18 columns and used 100 cubic yards of concrete, that’s a load for 10 concrete trucks. Work will be ramping up and at peak by October, it is expected that 800 cubic yards of concrete will be used per day, that’s 80 trucks delivering concrete to the MIC construction site per day. There are approximately 2700 columns in total that will be poured as part of the Rental Car Center construction. Gary L. Donn, FDOT District Six Director of Transportation Support & Miami Intermodal Center Program, presented the MIC Program during the “Intermodalism in Miami-Dade County” Panel to a national audience comprised of professionals in aviation, highways, public transportation, ports and rail. December 14, 2006 - MIC Field Office, Miami, Florida FTA Visit to the MICThe MIC Program hosted a portion of the Federal Transit Administration’s visit by Administrator James Simpson and Regional Administrator Yvette Taylor at the MIC Field Office. Together with the Miami-Dade Transit Authority, FDOT presented the MIC Program and its Miami Central Station as part of a briefing on the MIC-Earlington Heights Metrorail Extension Project. FDOT District Six Secretary Johnny Martinez, P.E. and MIC Facilities Task Manager Ricardo Fernandez, A.I.A., presented on behalf of FDOT.November 28, 2006 – University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL South Dade FDOT Work Program MeetingThe MIC Program participates at the yearly FDOT Work Program Meetings held to present to the community FDOT’s Five-Year Work Program, answer questions and receive feedback.June 29, 2006 – Rusty Pelican, Key Biscayne, Florida MIC Presentation to the Miami Rotary ClubThe Miami Rotary Club invited the MIC Program to its bi-monthly meeting. Donn, FDOT District Six Director of Transportation Support & Miami Intermodal Center Program, addressed the group and offered a review of the progress being made.August 4, 2005 – MIC Field Office, Miami, Florida Senator Mel Martinez Press Conference SAFE-TEA 2005U.S. Senator Mel Martinez held a press conference at the MIC Field Office to discuss recent congressional action on the multi-year highway bill, the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, and Efficient Transportation Equity Act of 2005. Senator Martinez was joined by U.S. Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Lincoln Diaz-Balart, Mario Diaz-Balart, and numerous local officials.March 12, 2004 – NW14th Street & Douglas Road, Miami, Florida NW 14th Street Ribbon Cutting EventJust one snip of the scissors re-opened one of Miami-Dade County's most heavily traveled roadways in the vicinity of the Miami International Airport. These pictures captured the ceremony heralding the moment when traffic begins to flow through this vital artery which was closed for 8 months during the roadway reconstruction of NW 14th Street from NW 37th Avenue (Douglas Road) to NW 42nd Avenue (LeJeune Road). Miami Mayor Manuel Diaz, Miami Commissioner Angel Gonzalez, FDOT Directors Gus Pego and Gary Donn, and local residents celebrated the re-opening of this vital roadway on Friday, March 12, 2004 at the Grapeland Heights Library parking lot. This community event signified the completion of the $3 million reconstruction and flood relief project, which began July, 2003. The project included a new roadway with sidewalks, lighting, signalization, landscaping, and drainage. Additional work included the widening and resurfacing of the roadway and new sidewalks along NW 14th Street from NW 36th Avenue to NW 34th Avenue and from NW 42nd Court to LeJeune Road. These improvements will serve to ensure safe and efficient travel for the community and the traveling public.June 25, 2002 – Coconut Grove Exposition Center, Miami, Florida Capital for a DayFlorida Governor Jeb Bush was amongst many Capitol for a Day participants at the Coconut Grove Exposition Center to express enthusiasm for the Miami Intermodal Center's Rental Car Center. The Governor has been supportive of the FDOT's mega-program but had not previously seen the impressive scale model of the soon-to-be built facility. The RCC model was created by FDOT to give the public a realistic view of the facility which will be built east of LeJeune Road across from Miami International Airport.February 6, 2002 S.W.A.T. Team ExerciseJanuary 11, 2002 Transportation SummitTopic: The events of 9/11 have brought transportation to the forefront of people's minds. Security issues must be addressed to ensure that the horrific events of that terrible day never occur again. Mass transit must be poised to answer the public's needs when personal transportation is rendered unavailable. Most important, transportation agencies must work together to present a unified front before elected officials when seeking government allocations to ensure that our region's interests are conveyed and those essential programs are funded.December 1, 2001 – Wolfson Campus, Miami, Florida “Creating Opportunities for the Economy” Miami Dade Community CollegeThe "Creating Opportunities for the Economy" business conference was held as part of the School of Business’s, Entrepreneurial Training & Technical Assistance Program (ETTAP). The Keynote Speaker for the event was Mr. Jose Abreu, FDOT, District Six Secretary. Also in attendance were Ms. Denise Mincey-Mills, Vice President, Disadvantaged Businesses, Turner Construction Company and Mr. William Dozier, President, Dozier & Dozier Construction Company. Besides FDOT District Six, the other partners to the event were The US Small Business Administration, The US Department of Transportation Southern TEAM Office, The National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) and The South Beach & Greater Miami Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.November 29-30th, 2001 – MIC Site, Miami, Florida USAR Disaster Response ExerciseThe event features the use of various pieces of technical rescue equipment and was filmed by the Discovery Channel, MSNBC, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as a documentary. It involved over 100 technical rescue and USAR team members from throughout the country. The area sits on the MIC Rental Car Center site.
