If you’re looking for the most complete review of AGM batteries on the Internet, you’ve found it.

It’s easy to see why you’d want to know more. AGM batteries are very popular right now. They can work in even the most difficult situations and last a lot longer than lead-acid batteries.

We have what you need, whether you need a battery to keep your solar panel charged or a new battery for your truck.

Check out our list of the best AGM batteries on the market, and then read our buying tips to figure out exactly what you need.

Best AGM Battery for Your Car/Truck

Even though AGM batteries are often used for things other than cars, there are many reasons to use one in your car. AGM batteries are better than lead-acid batteries in almost every way, from having a longer shelf life to being easier to start on cold days. What kind of person wouldn’t want that in their car or truck?

1. Odyssey 34/78-PC1500DT

Odyssey 3478-PC1500DT

A 3–4-year warranty on the best AGM battery for your car.

The Odyssey 34/78-PC1500DT was the clear winner when it came to finding the best AGM battery for your car or truck.

It comes with a 3–4-year warranty that isn’t pro-rated like some other warranties. That means that if your battery dies after two years, the whole thing will be replaced for free. Other businesses, like Wal-Mart, offer warranties whose value goes down over time.

For example, if the warranty is for 3 years and the battery dies after 2 years, you only get a third of the cost of a new one! Not what you were expecting when you bought a warranty, right?

But with this Odyssey AGM battery, you probably won’t need that warranty. It can easily last for more than ten years, which is 70% longer than a regular car battery. That’s good, since the Odyssey AGM battery isn’t cheap.

But when you think about how much longer it will last than a lead-acid battery, it’s a better deal. But this amazing battery gives you more than just a great price and a great warranty.

You also get a battery that can work in very hot or cold conditions. In fact, you’ll be fine as long as it stays below 113 degrees Fahrenheit or above -40 degrees. This battery can work just about anywhere in the United States.

With 850 cold-cranking amps, it won’t even have trouble starting big engines on a cold morning! What you drive doesn’t matter. This battery has way more power than it needs.

Lastly, this battery will fit in almost any vehicle because it has both top and side posts. Make sure the battery bay is big enough, but connecting the terminals shouldn’t be a problem.

Pros

Up to 10 or more years of service

Works in very hot or very cold weather (between -40 and 113 Fahrenheit)

850 amps for easy starting when it’s cold

Not a pro-rata warranty for 3–4 years!

Has both front and back posts.

Cons

Costs a lot up front

2. XS Power D3400

XS Power D3400

This one has the best performance and can last for more than 10 years.

The XS Power D3400 battery is the best of the best when it comes to performance. This battery has more than enough power to help you build a racecar, an off-roading monster, or an unbeatable daily driver.

At 32 degrees Fahrenheit, it puts out 1,000 cranking amps, which is more than enough power to start any car. It comes with a 3-year warranty that covers everything, so you can be sure you’re getting a battery that will last.

But it’s not surprising that XS Power D3400 batteries can last more than ten years because they are AGM batteries. The fact that they are so light makes them great for race cars, and the fact that they won’t leak makes them perfect for cars that will be driven off-road.

Since these batteries have both top and side posts, they are easy to connect to almost anything. And because the battery is small, almost every car or truck can use it.

Like the Odyssey AGM battery, the XS Power D3400’s main flaw is that it costs a lot up front. Even though they cost more than traditional lead-acid batteries, they last a lot longer. If you don’t have the extra money up front to buy a battery, it doesn’t matter.

Pros

Only weighs 48 pounds.

At 32 degrees Fahrenheit, 1,000 cranking amps can be used.

Great for applications that need performance

Excellent for use off-road.

Warranty for 3 years

Has both front and back posts.

Cons

Battery option that costs a lot

Best AGM Batteries for ATVs/Motorcycles

AGM batteries are an upgrade that can be added to most cars, but they are required for ATVs and motorcycles. The battery will move around a bit because the whole car moves when you turn or twist on the road or trail.

This is a big problem for lead-acid batteries, because if the acid inside moves around, it will damage the battery. But this is not a worry with AGM batteries. But not all AGM batteries are the same, so we took the time to find the best ones on the market.

1. ACDelco ATX14BS

ACDelco ATX14BS

This one makes you feel better.

Most people store their ATVs and motorcycles for a long time during the winter. But when you go to turn them back on, you want to be able to hit the road or trails without worrying about the battery.

This peace of mind comes from the ACDelco ATX14BS. The AGM battery makes it easy for them to keep their charge for a few days or a few months without being used.

Most AGM batteries can give you this peace of mind, but ACDelco batteries have a few advantages that make them stand out. First, it’s called Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for GM-made cars. That means that most GM cars come with an ACDelco battery right out of the box.

They make their cars to work with ACDelco batteries, so you can be sure that installing it won’t cause any problems. Even better, it fits a wide range of vehicles and has a powerful cold-cranking amp rating of 290. This is more than enough to start your motorcycle or ATV after a long break.

The biggest problem with an ACDelco AGM battery is that it only has a one-year warranty. Even though their batteries usually last much longer than this, a longer warranty doesn’t give them the peace of mind that comes with it.

But the warranty covers an unlimited number of miles, so it doesn’t matter how much you drive it in the first year. Lastly, the ACDelco ATX14BS fits a lot of different bikes and ATVs, but it’s not possible to make a battery that works for everything.

Before you buy something, you should always make sure it fits. This battery is 6.7 inches by 6.7 inches by 6.3 inches.

Pros

290 amps at cold start

fits a large number of vehicles

OEM for cars made by GM

Holds charge between uses

At 10.7 pounds, it’s light.

Cons

Not all motorcycles and ATVs can use it.

Warranty for 12 months

2. Deka Sports Power ETX-30L

Deka Sports Power ETX-30L

It’s the most powerful battery you can get for a motorcycle or ATV.

If you want the most powerful battery for your motorcycle or ATV, you don’t have to look any further. The Deka Sports Power ETX-30L has 400 amps when it’s 0 degrees Fahrenheit outside and the engine is cold. This gives it more than enough power to start even the biggest off-road vehicles or motorcycles in the worst weather.

Like many other AGM batteries, this Deka battery can work well even when the temperature is very high. This makes it a great choice for places with harsh weather.

But there is a cost to the extra power that the Deka Sports Power ETX-30L battery gives you. Weight. At 21 pounds, this AGM battery for motorcycles and ATVs is almost twice as heavy as other AGM batteries.

It is also bigger than some other AGM batteries, and only a small number of vehicles can use it. And just like the ACDelco battery, it only has a 12-month warranty. But it should last a lot longer, but you can’t be sure.

Before you buy something, you should always make sure it fits. This battery is 6.63 inches long, 6.88 inches wide, and 5.19 inches high.

Pros

400 amps at cold start

Designed to last a long time.

Cons

21 pounds is a lot.

Not a good fit

Warranty for 12 months

Best AGM Battery for Your RV/Trailer

When you go camping, you’ll probably want to bring a battery to keep all of your toys and gadgets charged. You’ll want a battery that can handle whatever you throw at it and is easy to charge after a long day.

These batteries can do all of that and more, which is why they quickly made it onto this list.

1. Renogy Deep Cycle AGM Battery

Renogy Deep Cycle AGM Battery

This battery can give you up to 100Ah of power for 10 hours.

Even though it’s not the biggest battery on the market, it’s big enough for most uses. Even when it’s not hooked up to an alternator or charger, it gives off power for a long time. It can give you up to 100Ah for 10 hours, but if that’s not enough, Renogy has another Deep Cycle AGM battery that can give you up to 200Ah for 20 hours.

Even better, these batteries keep their charge even when they are not being used. In fact, it loses less than 3% of its charge every month at 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Even if you store it in the garage until your annual camping trip, it will still have more than two-thirds of its charge when you leave.

With a battery that strong, you can use it for just about anything. But if you want something bigger, you can always connect these batteries in series to get twice as much power.

The Renogy Deep Cycle AGM battery is cheap for a battery that is so big and powerful. It is also cheaper than most batteries that are the same size. This battery’s only real flaw is that it is heavy. It weighs 66 pounds, which is a bit more than other batteries of a similar size.

And if you decide to upgrade to the bigger 200Ah/20HR battery, it weighs a whopping 129 pounds. Even though they can be useful because they can power so many different things, they are very heavy and can be hard to move to where they are needed.

Lastly, the Renogy Deep Cycle AGM battery has a two-year warranty, which is twice as long as what many other AGM battery brands offer. But it can be hard to use this warranty because most shipping companies won’t let you ship a battery. If something goes wrong and Renogy needs the old battery back to honour the warranty, you might be out of luck.

Pros

Long-lasting between charges

Long-lasting during use (100Ah/10HR)

AGM battery that is very strong

Useful for many different things

Warranty for 2 years

Cons

66 pounds is a lot.

Priced well for such a big battery

2. Universal UB121000

Universal UB121000

This Universal battery is strong, has a good price, and lasts a long time.

The Universal brand of AGM batteries has become known as one of the best on the market. Their batteries are strong, affordable, and last a long time.

The UB121000 is just as strong as the Renogy deep cycle battery that was just talked about, and it can give the same 100Ah/100HR output. But of the two options, the Universal battery is the cheaper one.

It still works for a lot of different things, and even though it’s technically two pounds lighter, we don’t think you’ll notice.

The service life and warranty are the two biggest downsides and differences between the two brands. Even though the warranty on Universal batteries is only 12 months, it’s hard to use warranties on batteries anyway.

They almost always want you to send the battery back, which is nearly impossible for a regular consumer to do because you can’t ship batteries the way you would ship other things.

Lastly, this Universal battery will only work for 3 to 5 years. Some people say they can use this battery for seven or more years, but it says right on the battery that it should be replaced before the five-year mark.

This short service life almost makes it impossible to save money over the life of the Renogy deep cycle battery.

Pros

Priced within reach

Long-lasting during use (100Ah/10HR)

AGM battery that is strong

Useful for many different things

Cons

Warranty for 12 months

Only 3–5 years.

64 pounds is a lot.

Best AGM Battery for Non-Automotive Purposes

AGM batteries have a lot of benefits for cars and off-roading, but sometimes you need an AGM battery for something other than a car. AGM batteries are much better than traditional lead-acid batteries, whether you want to charge solar panels or power some LEDs.

Weize

This is a great choice for using to power small tools and equipment.

Who says AGM batteries have to cost a lot? Not at all, Weize! This Weize battery costs half as much as other AGM batteries, but it still has all of the benefits of AGM batteries.

Even though it is much smaller than other AGM batteries, it is still a great choice for powering small tools and equipment. Even better, it’s cheap enough that you can quickly buy two or more and connect them in series and parallel to turn a 12-volt battery into a 24-volt battery.

This lets you use 24-volt devices like wheelchairs without worrying about frying the battery or other electronics. Since the battery only weighs 23 pounds, you don’t have to worry about making devices too heavy or having to carry around incredibly heavy batteries.

When it comes to other AGM batteries, a 1-year warranty is something we don’t like. However, because the Weize AGM battery is so cheap, the fact that it comes with a full 1-year warranty is great.

The only real problem with this Weize AGM battery is that it is small and only puts out a small amount of power. But if you know what you’re getting and don’t need a very powerful battery, this might be just what you need to get power without breaking the bank!

Pros

It’s easy to power in series and parallel to get more voltage.

Great for small equipment and tools

23 pounds is very small.

Warranty for 1 year

The all-purpose battery that can be used for most things

The least expensive AGM battery we looked at

Cons

A small battery doesn’t have much power.

Most Versatile AGM Battery

It’s not easy to find the AGM battery that can do the most things. The battery needs to have a long shelf life and be able to power a lot of different things. It also needs to work in both on-road and off-road vehicles.

After doing a lot of research and reading a lot of reviews, we were able to narrow our choices down to just one good battery. You can’t go wrong with the Optima OPT8016 no matter what you want.

Optima OPT8016

The Optima OPT8016 can hold a charge for up to 120 minutes and can be recharged more times than other marine batteries.

The Optima OPT8016 is, in a technical sense, a marine battery. But with more than 750 cold-cranking amps, this battery can handle anything on land or in the open water. The OPT8016 is called the “blue-top” by Optima fans, but it’s important to know that this “blue-top” has a grey base.

This makes it able to work both when starting and when running for a long time. Because of this, it can be used in ways that other “blue top” batteries can’t. This battery can start a big boat engine or the engine in your Honda Accord.

You can mount it almost anywhere, and it can handle a lot of shaking. Better still, it can be recharged more times than other marine batteries. The fact that the Optima OPT8016 battery can hold a charge for up to 120 minutes is a nice bonus.

It’s never been harder to kill a battery, whether you forgot to turn off the lights in your car or are out on the open water with a lot of electronics. It’s hard to find a more powerful AGM battery that’s the same size as this one.

All of Optima’s blue top batteries come with a two-year warranty from the date they were bought. They are also easy to use.

The Optima OPT8016 battery’s only real flaw is that it only comes with a top post. Even though this isn’t usually a problem, you might run into a vehicle that only has battery terminals for side post batteries.

Before you buy the Optima OPT8016 or any other battery, you should double-check that it fits both in terms of size and battery terminals.

Pros

750 amps at cold start

mounts in any place

Excellent for both marine and automotive uses

Reserve time of up to 120 minutes

Small but very powerful battery

Warranty for 2 years

Cons

Only the top job

4 Tips for Buyers!

Most AGM batteries aren’t cheap, so you want to do it right the first time. You should be fine as long as you do your research and get a battery that fits your needs. But just to be sure, check out the five tips below to make sure you get exactly what you need!

Always opt for extra power!

Tim from “The Tool Man” knew that more power is always a good thing. Even though he might have gone a little too far, you don’t want a battery that can’t do its job. Spend a little more money to get a battery with a little more power than you need.

Always get AGM over lead acid

Even if you don’t think you need an AGM battery, it will save you money in the long run to buy one. The average AGM battery can last up to 70% longer than a lead-acid battery. Spend a little more now and you’ll save a lot more later.

Always check the fine print on warranties

If you have to mail the battery back to redeem the warranty, you’re almost always out of luck. Traditional mail carriers don’t ship batteries, and the ones that do don’t take orders from customers.

Cold-cranking amps matter

When looking for a car battery, pay attention to how many amps it takes to start the car when it is cold. On a cold morning, the last thing you want is a car that won’t start. Amps that work even when it’s cold keep everything running smoothly.

The Final Verdict

Not every AGM battery can be used for every task. Before you spend a lot of money on a top-of-the-line battery, you should do your research. Even though AGM batteries are better than regular lead-acid batteries in a lot of ways, it’s much easier to buy one that won’t work for what you want to do.

But if you do a little research, you can find a battery that works better than any you’ve ever used. Even better, you can save some money over time as well.
