Have you ever been in a parking lot and seen someone getting in or out of one of those fancy cars with the butterfly doors?

Butterfly doors are really cool-looking, and you can find them on a number of high-performance cars.

Want to know what cars have doors like these?

Read on for more information about cars with butterfly doors.

1. Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale

Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale

The Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale was made from November 1967 to March 1969. It was one of the first supercars ever made.

Even though this was a long time, only 18 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale cars were ever made.

Alfa built the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale to make some of its racing technology available to the public. At $17,000, it was the most expensive car available to the public in 1968, when the average price of a new car was only $2,822.

As you might guess, this is a rare collector’s item that costs a lot.

At the 2015 Detroit auto show, the head of Alfa North America said that the 33 Stradale was worth “well over $10 million” on the market.

2. BMW i8

One of my favourite luxury sports cars I’ll never be able to buy is the BMW i8.

This sports car is a plug-in hybrid, and it looks so cool.

It came out for the first time in Germany in June 2014, and then in the US in August 2014.

In May 2018, a roadster version of this car came out, and the last one was made in June 2020.

Since the BMW i8 will be the best-selling plug-in electric sports car in the world by March 2020, I find it interesting that they stopped making it.

So, the only way to get one of these is to buy a used one.

3. Ferrari Enzo Ferrari

Ferrari Enzo

One cool thing about the Ferrari Enzo Ferrari car is that it is named after Enzo Ferrari, who started the company.

It was made in 2002 using Formula One technology, such as a carbon-fiber body, an F1-style electro-hydraulic shift transmission, and carbon fiber-reinforced silicon carbide ceramic composite disc brakes.

The first of these units was announced and sold at the Paris Motor Show in 2002. Only 399 of them were made.

For Ferrari, the F140 B V12 engine in the Enzo was the first of a new generation.

It is based on the V8 engine in the Maserati Quattroporte, using the same basic design and 104 mm (4.1 in) bore spacing.

The last Ferrari Enzo Ferrari was made in 2004, and the 400th one was given to the Vatican as a donation.

Later, at a Sotheby’s auction, that car was sold for $1.1 million.

One of the rarest luxury sports cars is the Ferrari Enzo Ferrari.

At a private auction in August 2021, a rare 2003 Ferrari Enzo sold for $3.8 million.

With a price tag of $3.8 million, this recent sale is one of the most expensive Enzos ever sold out of the 399 that were made.

4. Ferrari LaFerrari

This hybrid luxury sports car is one of only a few hundred made by the Italian automaker Ferrari.

The Ferrari LaFerrari is, as you might expect, a very expensive car. Not only is it made by Ferrari, but it was also made in a limited number.

The way this car looks is really something that stands out. It just seems too fast (and crazy expensive).

This model was only made in a little more than 700 units, making it a very rare car with butterfly doors.

5. Ford GT

2013 Ford Shelby GT500 convertible

The Ford GT is another one of my favourite high-end sports cars that is out of my price range. It’s a hot sports car, and newer models have butterfly doors.

The first Ford GTs to come with butterfly doors were made in 2017.

Yes, the GT models from before 2017 only have regular doors.

With these doors, this car reminds me of the Batmobile, right?

The Ford GT with butterfly doors is one of the few cars on this list that is still being made. However, it will cost you a cool $500,000 to get one.

The Ford GT is one of the cheaper cars with butterfly doors, if you consider a half-million dollars to be affordable.

6. McLaren F1

The McLaren F1 is thought to be one of the best sports cars ever made. It also has butterfly doors and is one of the most expensive and sought-after sports cars with butterfly doors.

This is another one of those very rare and hard-to-find sports cars.

Because only 106 McLaren F1 cars were made in a limited production run, the F1 is one of the most expensive cars in the world today.

Only a few of those 106 cars were made each year, from 1992 to 1998.

You might be able to pay for one if you win the lottery.

In August 2021, a McLaren F1 was sold at auction for a whopping $20.5 million at Pebble Beach in California.

7. McLaren P1

McLaren P1

The McLaren P1 is another luxury sports car with butterfly doors that is made in a small number.

The automotive press thinks of it as the car that will replace the McLaren F1. It uses hybrid power and Formula One technology, but it doesn’t have the same three-seat layout.

I think the McLaren P1 looks better than the McLaren F1 as a sports car.

The McLaren P1 was made from October 2013 to December 2015. Only 375 cars were made in the first batch.

Here’s how the numbers of production looked:

375 P1s produced

From 2015 to 2016, 58 P1 GTRs were made.

From 2016 to 2017, 5 P1 LMs were made.

1 P1 GT produced (made in 2018)

You should know that there are still plans to make new models.

In April 2020, Lanzante Motorsport said it would turn six more P1 GTRs into street-legal cars.

8. Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is one of the most affordable cars with butterfly doors.

McLaren Automotive and Mercedes-Benz worked together to make the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. Only about 3,500 were made over the course of seven years.

But production stopped early in 2009. Between 2003 and 2009, a total of 2,157 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLarens were made.

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is great because it has the best parts of both of these high-end sports car brands.

SLR stands for “Sport Leicht Rennsport,” which means “Light Racing.” This is a nod to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR, which was the model for this car.

9. Toyota Sera

Toyota Sera

Would you believe that Toyota used to make a sports car with butterfly doors that was good for consumers?

From February 1990 to December 1995, 15,941 Toyota Seras were made, for a total of 15,941 units.

This three-door coupe hatchback is unique because it has butterfly doors instead of hinged doors that open to the side. This means that the butterfly doors can be fully opened in a fairly small space, requiring only 43cm (17 in) of side clearance.

The Toyota Sera might be the cheapest car ever made with butterfly doors.

One cool thing about this car is that it was the Toyota Sera that gave McLaren the idea for their butterfly doors.

Even though it was a cute little sports coupe, it doesn’t compare to the other sports cars on this list.

10. Volkswagen XL1

The Volkswagen XL1 was one of the cheaper cars with butterfly doors. It was only made in 250 units.

The Volkswagen XL1 could be bought for as little as €111,000, and it was only sold in Europe.

It is the most eco-friendly car with butterfly doors ever made. It has a diesel plug-in hybrid drive and only uses 0.9 l of fuel per 100 km.

In February 2014, the Volkswagen XL1 was chosen as one of the top five cars in the running for 2014 World Car of the Year.

Butterfly Doors vs Scissor Doors

People will sometimes use the terms butterfly door and scissors door interchangeably, but you shouldn’t.

Scissor doors and butterfly doors are not the same.

With hinges on the A-pillar, butterfly doors move up and out, making it easy to get in and out of the car.

But butterfly doors do need more space than scissors doors to open.

Scissor doors have hinges at the bottom of the A-pillar and open straight up. They aren’t as easy to get in and out of.
