People who live in Connecticut can enjoy warm, sunny summers.

At the same time, most people don’t like being in a car on a hot day.

Putting tint on your windows is a great way to keep the heat out.

Window tints not only make your car look cool, but they also help in a number of other ways.

Window tints have their benefits, but when you get them for your car, you need to follow certain rules and laws.

All states have laws that say how dark or how much your window tints reflect light.

Visible Light Transmission (VLT) measures how much visible light can get into the car through the tint.

This number is different in each state.

The law in Connecticut says how much you can do this.

Whether you drive a sedan or an SUV changes the rules and laws you have to follow.

You will learn everything you need to know about Connecticut’s tint laws by reading this article.

Benefits of Window Tinting

Window tints are not only good for your car, but they are also good for the health of your passengers.

A good tint can keep your car cooler and save you money on gas by making you use the air conditioner less.

It can keep the inside of your car from fading because of the sun and block a lot of the cancer-causing UV rays.

Window Tint Laws for Sedans

For Sedan drivers, Connecticut’s window tint laws say that you need to follow these rules:

Tint Darkness

Visible Light Transmission (VLT) is a way to figure out how dark a tint is.

The windshield can have non-reflective tint that goes above the AS-1 line set by the manufacturer.

At least 35% of light should get through the front side windows.

You can use a tint with any amount of darkness on the back window.

There is no maximum amount. But at least 35% of light should be able to get through the side windows in the back.

Tint Reflection

Glare can be cut down by tinting your windows.

But Connecticut laws also set limits on how much tint can reflect light.

To stay in compliance, you must follow these rules.

The front side windows of your car can’t reflect more than 21% of light.

With the side windows in the back, you can see yourself a little better. They can’t reflect more than 27 percent.

Window Tint Laws for SUVs & Vans

The Connecticut laws on window tinting for drivers of SUVs or vans are as follows:

Tint Darkness

SUVs and vans can legally have non-reflective tint on their windshields that goes up to the AS-1 line set by the manufacturer.

The VLT measurement of the front side windows should be at least 35%.

You can choose how dark you want the tint on the rear window and the side windows.

According to the law, there are no limits on these.

Tint Reflection

There are no differences between the laws for sedans, SUVs, and vans when it comes to tint reflection.

The front side windows of your car can’t let more than 21% of light in.

The side windows in the back can’t let more than 27% of the light in.

Additional Guidelines

In addition to the rules we’ve already talked about, there are a few more things you need to do:

Side Mirrors: If your back window is tinted, you need mirrors on both sides.

Colored Tints: Colored window tints can’t be used in Connecticut.

Certification: It is up to the company that makes the film to certify what they make. Please make sure that the film your dealer sells is certified.

Stickers: Connecticut law says that you have to put a sticker between the tint and the glass on each window to prove that the tint is legal.

Exemptions for Drivers with Medical Conditions

The window tinting laws in Connecticut do let people with medical conditions get out of them.

But this exemption can be used for up to 20% of VLT.

In the end, for medical reasons, the window tint can be anywhere from 32% to 20%.

To get a special permit, a person who wants to be exempt because of health reasons must fill out a form.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Division will then have to check that your request is correct.

For this, you will need to pass the tint measurement, which can be done at either the Wethersfield or Hamden inspection lanes.

If less than 20% of light gets through your car tint, you won’t get an exemption and will be sent to the medical review unit.

Since there are no compliance stickers, you have to keep this signed form in the car at all times.

Can You Get Pulled Over for Tint in Connecticut?

In Connecticut, you can get pulled over for tint.

Window tints can be a good way to spend your money.

But if you break Connecticut’s laws about window tinting, you will have to pay for it.

If you break the law, you could be fined.

If a police officer thinks your tint is darker than what is allowed, they can pull you over.

They can measure how dark the tint is with a Visible Light Transmission metre.

If it’s your first time, you can get a warning. But if you do it again, you’ll get a ticket.

If you want to make sure your tints are legal, you can take them to the inspection lanes in Wethersfield or Hamden to be checked.

If your car does not pass the inspection, you will get a warning ticket.
