Indeed, rebuilding a transmission isn’t as simple as changing the oil in your car. It’s something that a professional mechanic might enjoy and find very hard.

However, keep in mind that rebuilding a transmission on your own is very difficult, and if you don’t know what you’re doing, chances are you’ll end up damaging the transmission so bad that it can’t be fixed.

What you should do is take your car to a mechanic who knows how to fix transmissions. You want to read this about a transmission leak because you think it is interesting.

When you know what to do and have the right tools, it’s easy to handle your transmission job. You also need to pay attention to the small things and ask your mechanic for advice.

How to rebuild a 4l60e transmission

Try putting the hard parts on the Performance Automatic build bench in different places. This will help you build faster. The 4L60E transmission doesn’t look any different from the 700-R4, 4L60, 4L65E, or 4L75E transmission. You just need to take this 4L60E that has been used a lot and give it more rebuilding power with Performance Automatic.

It’s important to note that this 4L60E had a lot of damage done to it, with each broken hard part following the next. The Performance Automatic is going to be made with 400-500 horsepower and more torque, so it will be faster and more powerful.

Remember that one of the 4L60E’s flaws is the sun reaction shell that comes from the factory. This tends to break around the hub, which doesn’t take long for it to break. Using this new, thicker sun shell, the Performance Automatic fits its 4L60E building into place. This sun shell has been made stronger by welding together the center hub and the spline area, which prevents it from breaking. Make sure to note that when you rebuild this part, a heavy-duty Torrington bearing helps to reduce friction, which also helps to keep the heat down.

The Performance Automatic helps the 4L60E have more torque by adding a five-pinion front planet (left) and ring gear.

To put it another way, with five pinions instead of four (right), you will be spreading the torque out over a bigger mechanical surface area. In this case, the 4L60E will be able to handle up to 500 horsepower with the 5-pinion front planet on it. This gives us about 20% more torque.

With a five-pinion planet (left) and ring gear instead of the 4L60E’s standard four pinions, the 4L60E’s rear planet torque capacity will be 20% more than it was before (right). However, when you rebuild your 4L60E, you’ll lose about 400-500 horsepower torque and about 6,500-7,000 pounds of gross weight. It’s important to keep in mind that this shows you how much space the 4L65E/4L75E has.
