Before you reset your emission system problem light, you should make sure there are no problems. For example, your car’s Check Engine light is very important for letting you know about problems before they get bad or dangerous.

Before you turn off the ignition, let the engine cool down a little bit.

In safety glasses and gloves, figure out which terminal is the negative one on your car battery. People usually have a black cap and a negative sign. You’ll see that the positive cap is going to be red and have a plus sign on it.

A wrench can be used to get the nut on the negative terminal to come off with a little more ease. Take the battery’s negative terminal off. For about 30–60 seconds, put it to the side and move it.
