Every day, more and more people want a Tesla, and now everyone wants one. But not everyone can afford this popular electric car, especially not without a discount.

People might think that Tesla employees are better able to buy Teslas than other people. This is because they work there and can get a discount as an employee.

Tesla employees don’t get a discount on new Tesla cars, but as employees, they have access to a lot of other benefits. This includes discounts on items, accessories, and maybe even cars that are a few years old.

In an email sent to employees on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, Tesla’s CEO said that he didn’t like it when salespeople offered discounts on Tesla cars.

In part of the email that Elon Musk shared on his Twitter account, it said,

There can never be a discount on a brand-new car that comes out of the factory in perfect condition… This is why I never pay less than full price for a car, and neither do my family, friends, or famous people, no matter how famous or influential they are.

Read on to learn what it’s like to work for one of the best companies in the world.

Tesla Employee Discount

Even though Tesla’s CEO doesn’t get discounts on their new models, there are still benefits to working for the company.

The Tesla employee discount can be used on almost all Tesla products, accessories, and some of the company’s older models of cars.

I don’t work for the company, so I can’t tell you exactly which products their employee discounts apply to. But we can look at reports from people who worked there before.

According to Futurefuel.io, the Tesla Employee Discount can be as much as 35% off. Even so, it’s likely that most of the discounts are for Tesla products and add-ons and not for cars.

Based on the fact that new models have been on backorder for months and that many customers are willing to pay full price for the cars, it’s unlikely that employees would get discounts when buying cars.

Employees can take advantage of extra buying incentives, such as Tesla’s limited-time referral programmes, which offer things like free supercharging for life and a $1000 rebate.

Does Tesla Give Discounts?

Unfortunately, the only way to save money on a new Tesla is to wait for the prices of older models to go down. At the very least, this could take a few years.

You can also get discounts on cars that have been used for test drives, cars on the showroom floor, and cars with small problems like dings.

Elon Musk says that he doesn’t give discounts because it’s against his values to do so. He says that this is how he makes sure that everyone gets the same treatment when new batches hit the market and new models come out.

Do Tesla Employees Get a Free Tesla?

No. Giving every worker at the company a free company car would not be possible and would probably put the company out of business. It would also go against Elon’s belief that everyone is equal.

So, if an employee wants to win a Tesla, they would have to buy it like any other customer. They also get to work with these new models and drive them around as company cars.

There are company cars that employees can use together or even take home.

Even though employees have access to the vehicle and can use it as their own car, they must return it to the company on a regular basis and cannot take it with them when their contract with the company ends.

Tesla doesn’t give out free stuff or discounts, but they pay their employees very well. If employees save money well, they can buy a Tesla in a few years if they want to.

Other Perks Tesla Employees Receive

Even though the company doesn’t give employees discounts on cars, it’s not all bad.

People think that Tesla is one of the best places to work in the world because of the environment, the pay, and the perks and bonuses they offer.

I’ll give you some examples of the benefits a Tesla worker is entitled to while working there:

1. Full Self-Driving (FSD) And the Autopilot Hardware 3 Test Programs

On December 29, 2018, Tesla started a programme to encourage its employees to buy new cars and qualify for the Autopilot Hardware 3 Test Program. Earlier in the year, the company had hundreds of its employees try out its new full self-driving (FSD) system.

Every time these employees bought a new car, they got free upgrades to Autopilot. The new Hardware 3 computers that would be put in their cars would help them test the new self-driving features.

Elon Musk gave his employees an even better reason to buy Model 3s by getting rid of the $5,000 interior upgrade cost. With this waiver, the Full Self-Driving, and the Autopilot Hardware 3, the employees saved a total of $13,000.

He also said that employees who were interested in the Full Self-Driving (FSD) programme could use paid time off they had saved up to buy the car. This is crazy, because Tesla employees usually don’t get discounts on new Tesla cars.

2. Discounts on Company Branded Wears

Tesla doesn’t just make electric cars; they also make clothes for their employees. With the discounts they give to their employees, employees can get great deals for their whole family.

They get discounts of up to 35% on different products and services offered by the company, such as child care, travel, and entertainment. When pop-up shops sell Tesla items, they run out of stock in record time.

3. Paid Time Off (PTO) Car Discounts

Elon Musk is strongly against discounting cars in the company, but employees can still get great deals on Teslas in other ways.

If a worker has earned some time off, they can use it to save a lot of money on a car.

4. Unlimited Paid Time Off (PTO)

As a business, Tesla cares about the health and happiness of its employees. So, workers aren’t punished for taking longer vacations or sick days. Mothers have the right to 12 weeks of maternity leave and fathers have the right to 7 weeks of paternity leave.

There are fitness benefits for employees, like gyms and fitness classes, that are right on the job site.

In tech companies, the policy of giving employees unlimited paid vacation days has worked well to attract younger workers who value flexibility and freedom.

Employees don’t have to worry about getting in trouble if they need to extend their time off for whatever reason.

When it comes to ethics, if an employee treats you well, they are unlikely to take advantage of this kindness.

5. Comprehensive Medical coverage

In the world we live in now, an employer who offers any kind of health insurance plan should be valued. Tesla gives its employees health insurance that covers a lot of different things.

The coverage includes basic medical care, hospital stays, medical supplies, medicines, dental and vision plans, emergency coverage while travelling, and other things.

It also offers attractive Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance, which pays out up to two years’ worth of salary to the employee’s family.

It also pays its employees’ short-term disability insurance. For 4 months of disability pay, they can get up to 67 percent of their normal pay.

That adds up to no more than $1000 a week. The company’s disability insurance pays up to 60% of normal wages if the disability lasts for a long time.

The most you can get is $5000. Also, Tesla has policies and makes ongoing efforts to make sure accidents don’t happen on any of their properties.

6. Discounted Company Stock

Even though Tesla stocks are very popular with investors, the company still gives its workers the chance to buy a piece of the company at a discount.

With the Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), employees can get discounts of up to 15% during buying periods twice a year.

Based on how much the company is worth, this is a great discount, and it could help a lot of employees in the long run. It also helps its workers build up their investment portfolios, which could help them earn more money.

7. Financial Benefit

The benefits that come with a salary at Tesla are impressive. A worker can also join the company’s 401K programme after getting their first paycheck.

The workers also get Life Insurance and other benefits worth up to $1,000,000 each.

8. Top-Notch Training

Because the company is always coming up with new ideas, it needs its employees to always know what’s going on in the tech world.

So, the company has high standards for the skills of its employees and has put a lot of money into their learning and training.

In Fremont, California, there is a place called the Tesla Learning Center where people can go to learn.

Here, Tesla employees who need training learn about the latest technological advances in automation, clean energy, and other important skills used to make better electric cars.

Should You Work at Tesla for the Employee Discount?

How to answer this question depends on what you want to do. If you want to join the company to save money on a Tesla or get a free car, you probably shouldn’t.

However, if you are joining the company to gain skills and work for a world leader in technical innovation, yes. The other perks the company provides are enough reasons to work for the company.
